Swedish producer and seller of food products, co-operative Konsum Värmland, will cut 200 jobs as a number of stores and production facilities are closed. Konsum Värmland has struggled with negative results, which created the need for internal restructuring and the closure of several operations. The ERM previously reported on 137 jobs cut at the headquarters and in transport and logistics operations in September 2016.
Konsum Värmland are now closing both Konsum Värmland Bakery and Värmlandschark (production facility for charcuteries) in order to streamline production to pastry products, sandwich cakes ('smörgåstårtor') and mayonnaise based salads. In addition, the Mansion/Affection gift shops in Säffle, Kristinehamn, Arvika and Karlskoga owned by Konsum Värmland will be closed and the store in Karlstad will be sold. Coop Nära grocery stores in Björneborg and Nykroppa will be closed as well due to negative results.
The local Food Workers Union representative has expressed disappointment with the decision. The union had instead proposed that production should be downscaled and moved to another location. Employer-employee negotiations will begin in February.
