Description

The mining company GEAM is to terminate employment of 154 workers (out of a total staff of 700 workers) at the end of March 2017 due to the closure of a uranium mine in Dolní Rožínka. According to Thomas Rychtařík, director of the state company DIAMO, under which the GEAM plant falls, liquidation work has already commenced. The Rožná mine has been the last functioning uranium mine not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe. Uranium exploration there started 60 years ago.
