Description
Scottish Local Authority Highland Council has announced that it is seeking to reduce staffing by at least 200 jobs, in order to make budget savings. A reported 400 staff accepted voluntary redundancy packages last year and details of an enhanced scheme are due to be released to workers. A spokesperson for the council said that the voluntary scheme should help to avoid the need for compulsory redundancies. A spokesperson for the GMB union expressed concern at the level of cuts proposed and warned of workload and service delivery problems if these cuts are carried out. No information has been disclosed about the time frame for the reductions.
