Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 30 November 2016, the provider of embedded Computer Technology Kontron announced to cut 300 jobs. Mainly affected will be the company's administration department. The management claims that the main reason for the restructuring is wan envisaged improvement in results to restore the company's profitability over the next one and a half years. Furthermore, Kontron restructuring plan also includes to strengthen the regional focus of the company’s structure.
Kontron announced to implement the job cuts in close and constructive cooperation with the company's works council.
At the moment, the company yet to release any information on which sites will be affected. Kontron has sites in Augsburg (headquarter), Deggendorf and Saarbrücken. However, Kontron also holds sales offices in other European countries, North America and Asia. Kontron currently employs 1,260 staff worldwide.
