Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Manufacturer of medical products, ConvaTec, has announced that it is to cut 93 jobs from its site in North Wales. The company, which employs 498 workers, intends to move manufacture of non-wound care products to another facility. It is being reported that although the job cuts will affect 93 of the 498 positions, all workers will need to reapply for their positions. Voluntary redundancy packages are on offer for qualifying staff and a consultation has been started with employee representatives. It is understood that the cuts will be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2017.
