Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Moneycentre in Plymouth, a call centre owned by Cigna Insurance Services, is reported to be cutting 420 jobs from its workforce. The company said that the decision had been reached following a strategic review of the business, which concluded that action was required as the travel market had become increasingly competitive. Staff have been informed of possible redundancies pending a statutory consultation process which will begin imminently. The outcome of the consultation is expected to follow at some point in early 2017.
