Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Muller Milk and Ingredients has announced plans to restructure its business alongside a plan for major investment in the company. The GBP 60 million investment will upgrade facilities at its sites in Manchester, Bridgwater, Droitwich, Severnside and Foston which will create a total of 180 new jobs. However, Muller has also confirmed that it will commence a 45 day consultation period on 10 November 2016 for workers at the Chadwell Heath dairy in North East London. The dairy is no longer considered viable and the proposals are for its gradual wind-down culminating in a closure over an 18 month period. The closure of the site will lead to the loss of 389 jobs. The ERM has previously reported on an internal restructuring at the company announced in March 2016.
