Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Burger King Restaurants Italia, the Italian licensed fast-food chain of the famous Burger King brand, is to hire up to 400 young people in many Italian regions (Lazio, Tuscany, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige) by the end of the year.
Burger King currently operates 148 fast foods in Italy, a number which continues to increase (see also Burger King Restaurants ItaliaIT-2016-1) and should exceed 160 by the end of the year.
The hirings are part of the company business plan, aimed at opening more than 300 new restaurants in Italy over the next six or seven years, under direct management or by means of franchising agreements.
Most of the new jobs will target crew positions. These workers will be employed on part-time open-ended or apprenticeship contracts. Another 20% of the available positions will be for managers to be employed on a full-time basis.
