Description
Transportation company DB Cargo is reported to be cutting nearly 900 jobs from its operations across the UK. The company is the UK's largest rail freight transporter and currently employs 3,400 staff. The job cuts are a response to steep falls in demand for transportation of products such as coal and steel. A spokesperson for the German-owned company stressed that a final decision had yet to be taken, though the job cuts were necessary in order to protect the future of the business. The spokesperson also highlighted that the company would look to support employees affected by redundancy. Due to the numbers of workers affected, the plans are subject to collective consultation rules and no redundancies can take place before consultations have concluded.
