Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish government ICT centre Valtori has initiated employer-employee negotiations aiming to cut 90 jobs. The aim of the internal restructuring is to increase the centre's efficiency and the dissemination of services produced by the centre. The goal is to make the organisation more customer oriented. The Finnish government is planning on saving €47 million annually from 2018 onwards on ICT-activities. Valtori ICT centre currently has 770 employees at 36 different locations in Finland. As of October 2016, it is not known when the job losses will be implemented by.
UPDATE 16/12/2016:Following concluded employer-employee negotiations the number of possible redundancies i still set at 90 employees. The restructuring will mainly be carried out during the first half of 2017 and the final number of jobs cut may be adjust during the process.
