Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish beverage manufacturer Sinebrychoff has initiated employer-employee negotiations with intentions of cutting 35 positions, which amounts to about 10% of the current workforce. In total 25 blue-collar jobs and 10 white-collar jobs will be cut. According to the company the redundancies are due to the falling demand for alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. This is the fourth time in the last five years that Sinebrychoff has initiated an internal restructuring process. The local union representative has criticised the company's current personnel policy for being short-sighted. As of October 2016, it is unknown when the employment effects will be implemented by. Sinebrychoff is a subsidiary of the international Carlsberg group.
