Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 October 2016, US food producer Kellogg’s announced to close its production site in Bremen. About 250 employees will lose their jobs. The closing will be implemented gradually between July 2017 and February 2018.
The site is producing Cornflakes and other cereals for the European market. Bremen is the only production site of Kellogg’s in Germany.
The company wants to start negotiations with the works' council soon. Politicians like the economic Senator of Bremen as well as the works' council were surprised by the company’s decision. Currently, 33,577 employees are working for Kellogg’s worldwide.
