Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish cooperative Suur-Seudun Osuuskauppa (SSO) has initiated employer-employee negotiations to cut up to 100 jobs. The company will review its operations in order to make inefficient units more efficient by reorganising and closing some units. Through the restructuring SSO wants to enable investments in digitalisation and further develop customer service solutions. As of October 2016, there is no information regarding when the employment effects will be implemented by.
SSO is made up of around 80 different business units and the cooperative consists of a number of businesses among which gas stations, restaurants, super markets and hotels.
