Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Engineering company Technip, which provides engineering and consultancy support for the oil and gas industry, has announced plans to cut 130 further jobs from its operations based in Aberdeen. The oil and gas industry has been suffering from low demand for some time and the latest job cuts are a response to the ongoing situation. Technip announced in 2015, that it would be reducing 6,000 jobs from its global workforce in a bid to make large savings. The affected workers have been informed of the company's plans and a compulsory consultation period is in progress.
