Description
The government of the federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz announced plans to cut 2,000 positions by 2020. The state wants to have a balanced budget in 2020 and will therefore not be re-filling positions. There will not be any direct dismissals.
The distribution of the job cut are as follows:
A total of 310 jobs will be cut in schools, 50 in higher education institutions.
In addition, 240 positions will be reduced in the financial administration, 180 in the administration for mobility, 85 in the construction administration and 106 in the agriculture administration.
The police will have 50 positions less and the correctional facility will be affected by 60 positions.
Furthermore, 120 jobs will be cut in the regional authority for youth, social affairs and supply and 178 jobs in the forest administration.
Further jobs will be cut in other administration departments of the federal state (yet to be defined).
According to the Ministry of Education there are plans to close some smaller schools due to the decrease in numbers of pupils. In a first reaction to the restructuring, the teachers union GEW requested to fill the vacancies in the schools with social workers and pedagogical experts. Currently almost 116,000 people are employed by the government of the federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz.
