Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Online retailer Amazon has announced plans to create 450 new jobs in its four French warehouses in Saran (Loiret), Lauwin-Planque (Nord), Montélimar (Drôme) and Sevrey (Saône-et-Loire). This is in addition to the 500 jobs which the company expected to be created in 2016. Since January 2016, Amazon has already recruited 550 employees on permanent employment contracts. By the end of 2016 Amazon is expected to employ 4,000 full time staff in France instead of 3,000 in January 2016. The management explains that the recruitment is linked to the important investments made on the French market (over 1.5 billion since 2010). Job creation were recorded on the ERM Database four times since 2007 : 200 positions in 2007, 250 in 2010, 400 in 2012 and 2,500 in 2014.
