The directors of the electrical equipment manufacturing plant based in Kontich announced the closure of the plant and the dismissal of 121 workers. 20 jobs may be moved to Turnhout where Philips has a large facility employing 900 people. Philips underwent restructuring in 2014 and the new round of dismissals came as a surprise to the workers according to the secretary of BBTK. Philips company strategy for Belgium is to separate its lighting division from the main activities of the group and have it operate as an independent company.
