Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Law firm DLA Piper has announced it will cut around 200 jobs, of which 180 have been announced. These will be support staff, of which there are 1100, meaning that around 16% of that division will be cut. The move comes as part of an internal restructuring, with these roles being moved to an office in Poland; there will be job creation in Warsaw although numbers have not yet been announced. The move comes at the end of a 2 year consultation process, and the positions will be IT, Finance, HR, Marketing & BD, and Secretarial. Employees let go will have access to a career coach for three month, and will be offered six months of general employment counselling.
