Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Italian utility group Enel has announced the hiring of 375 new graduates in technical disciplines (18-29 years old) under a 36-month apprenticeship contract for its energy distribution company, recently renamed E-Distribuzione. This decision came after the agreement signed in 2014 with trade unions in the sector. Following a recent Italian labour reform, apprenticeship contracts are eventually converted into open-ended contracts at the end of the apprenticeship period.
According to the business plan, Enel intends to develop its distribution network to support the company growth.
Trade unions expressed satisfaction with the hiring plan.
