Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Dutch clothing retailer MS Mode has filed for bankruptcy, and its 935 employees in its 130 stores across the Netherlands and the international head office in Diemen (West Netherlands) will become unemployed. The bankruptcy follows several years of careful growth since 2011, but disappointing sales during the last winter with soft weather proved too much. Talks with potential buyers have been underway for a while, but there are no indications as of yet that they have succeeded. Outside of the Netherlands, MS Mode has an additional 270 stores in Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Spain. The roughly 1350 employees outside of the Netherlands remain, as of yet, unaffected.
