Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polish producer of rolling stocks Newag has announced that it will cut 107 jobs at the unit in Gliwice by the end of 2016. The company has already implemented a collective dismissal programme. Currently at the factory there is an ongoing labour dispute between the local trade union and the company, demanding social protection (severance pay) for laid-off workers. The programme is associated with the company’s decision to relocate production to the facility in Nowy Sącz.
Newag has been operating in Gliwice since 2008. Currently, the company employs 1,720 people, including 320 in Gliwice.
