Description
Kalmar, the industry forerunner in energy efficient heavy cargo handling solutions, has announced plans to relocate forklift truck production from Lidhult, Sweden to Stargard in Poland. 190 of the current 350 workers currently located at the Lidhult site are likely to be affected. At the same time, the company will invest in new state of the art premises in Ljungby in southern Sweden, with the intention to upgrade operations and establish a new Business, Innovation and Technology Centre; however, they have not yet stated whether new jobs will be created at the site.
The company has stated that it will provide competence training and support to employees to help them through the process of finding new jobs.
Update 12/07/2016: Kalmar has agreed to reduce the number of redundancies at the Lidhult site, following negotiations with trade unions. Now, 160 workers, or just under half of the individuals currently employed in Lidhult are to be dismissed. The company has stated that they will begin the process of relocation later this year.
