Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
UK-based tobacco company British American Tobacco (BAT) has announced that it will create 200 new jobs at its plant in Augustów, Poland. BAT is looking for mechanists, electricians, engineers, industrial machine operators as well as production and warehouse staff. The restructuring programme is associated with the company’s decision to transfer production from Bayreuth in Germany to Poland. Thereby, the factory in Augustów will be one of the largest BAT production facilities in the world.
Currently, the company employs 3,200 people across Poland, including 800 in Augustów. The factory in Augustów has been operating for 25 years; BAT has so far invested over PLN 1.70bn (EUR 389.39mn USD 427.44mn) in the facility.
Update 3/11/2016: British American Tobacco (BAT) has announced that it will create 250 new jobs at its unit in Augustów. The company has informed that since July 2016 over 190 employees have been already hired.
