Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 13 July 2016, FFG-Werke from the German machine tool industry announced plans to cut 144 jobs by the end of 2017 due to closure of its site in Diedesheim. At the moment 204 employees are working on the site in Diedesheim, but 60 jobs might be relocated to another site of the company. In 2013 the Taiwanese Fair Friend Group took over the former company (named Hüller Hille at that time) from the company MAG IAS. Works council and the German Metalworkers' Union have announced to take action against the company's decision. First talks between the company and employee representatives were already scheduled. Further information has yet to become available.
