Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 26 July 2016, car manufacturer Porsche announced to create some 1,400 jobs by 2019. The company stated that it was looking for 1,200 new employees for its production site in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. In addition, the company is looking to hire 100 IT-specialists and 50 experts for its digital unit. Furthermore, the number of apprentices will be increased from 150 to 220. The job creation is due to the company’s development of an electric sports car.
Already in 2012 and 2014, Porsche announced to create some 1,000 and 400 jobs respectively (Porsche 2012, Porsche 2014). Currently 26,200 employees are working for Porsche worldwide.
