Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Around 230 workers from the shoe factory Inkop from the Poznanovec near the City of Zabok were sent on leave, following which they will be dismissed. The director of the company has already submitted a request for bankruptcy in the Commercial Court in Zagreb.
The factory produced footwear for the army and police, but it was insufficient. The workers have not received salaries since February 2016. Inkhop engaged in two rounds of attempted conciliation between the union and management, however these attempts have failed. The Government stated that in this case it cannot help and the request for bankruptcy means that the factory will be closed. The company has stated the main reason for the closure is a significant decrease in the orders.
