Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Mobile Phone provider EE has announced that it is to create 550 new jobs in addition to the 500 which it has already created in 2016. The move comes after the company had pledged in April to ensure that customer calls would be handled in UK or Irish call centres. The decision to locate the jobs in the UK and Ireland was taken in response to concerns about service quality. It is reported that 260 jobs will be located at the company's Darlington and North Tyneside call centres in the North East, while 150 jobs are planned for Wales at the Merthyr Tydfil site and another 160 jobs will be located in the South West in Plymouth. These positions are due to be filled by the end of 2016.
