Technology company Seagate has announced plans to close its site in Havant, Hampshire with the loss of 324 jobs. The site is due to close by the second quarter of 2017. The company, which designs and manufactures computer hard drives, has announced that it intends to cut its global workforce by 14% by the end of 2017. The company has pointed to the increased popularity of solid state drives (SSD) rather than hard disk drives (HDD). Although, the company does manufacture both, it does not have a large market share in SSD.
