Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French DIY chain Leroy Merlin has announced the creation of 130 jobs by opening a new shop in Brest (Finistère). The new jobs are for sales assistants, floor managers, customer service representatives, logistics employees and managers. The management will start to recruit on 13 July to build the future team and to train them until the opening of the store by April-May 2017. Employees will be recruited on permanent employment contract.
Leroy Merlin employs over 21,000 people in 126 stores and reports a turnover of € 6bn in 2015. It announced the creation of 100 jobs in Beauvais in February 2016, of 110 jobs in Saint-Louis (La Réunion) in June 2014, (https://apps.eurofound.europa.eu/restructuring-events/detail/77086)100 jobs in its new shop in Pleurtuit in May 2014, the creation of 300 jobs in the Parisian region in 2012 and the creation of 300 positions in a site in Valence (store and logistic platform) in 2007.
