Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Baxters food company has announced that it is to cut up to 80 jobs from its workforce in Fochabers in North East Scotland. The company, which employs around 700 people, and is well known for its soups and preserves, said that it was embarking on a two year period of restructuring, which will affect up to 80 workers. The company has said that job losses are a result of tough trading conditions. Subsequent reports indicate that the first waves of redundancies will result in 16 workers being made redundant with further waves expected over the two year period. There has been no announcement as to when the first wave of the redundancies will take effect.
