Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Indra BPO Servicios has requested the employees’ representatives to set up a bargaining commission to initiate a negotiation process on a restructuring plan. The company aims to dismiss 354 workers. According to the trade unions, the company has taken this decision because Vodafone has replaced Indra BPO Servicios with Marktel and Konecta, in relation to a contract on telephone management. Work related to this contract, and thereby the workers in charge of such tasks, will cease on 22 July. This will justify the dismissal of 354 workers with open-ended contracts, most of them employed in offices located in Valencia. According to the company, the very specific work that these employees were doing will make difficult to relocate them.
