Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Homefriend, a subsidiary of Veolia, is about to open a call centre in July in Toulouse. It plans to recruit 240 people by February 2017 and the recruitment drive will start in June 2016. Homefriend is start-up created by the Veolia group, which focuses on water, energy and resource management, with the aim of promoting a move towards a circular economy. It has developed an application service to help customers to better manage their energy consumption. It is now possible to compare the energy consumption of users, and the application will make recommendations to customers and suggest ways of saving energy. Customers who contact Veolia may, if they agree, be redirected to Homefriends’ call centre to benefit from these services. The recruitment will consist almost entirely of full-time permanent employment.
