Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish logistics company Tuko Logistics has initiated employer-employee negotiations aiming to cut 240 jobs. The redundancies are due to Tuko loosing its largest client, Suomen Lähikauppa, to competing company Kesko. Plans are to cut 80 clerical jobs and 160 warehouse jobs. The CEO has stated that the company intends to seek out contracts with new clients to replace Suomen Lähikauppa. If Tuko Logistics can attract a new large client the estimated redundancies might be revised.
Update 13/6/2016:Following concluded employer-employee negotiations Tuko Logistics will cut 215 positions, compared with 240 positions that were initially announced. Tuko Logistics will begin the dismissals on June 13th.
