Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Lidl Italia, Italian branch of German supermarket chain Lidl, announced the opening of 30 new stores and the creation of 2,000 new jobs in Italy.
The chain has been operating in Italy for 24 years, and it has a total workforce of 12,000 people and 570 stores (see also Lidl ItaliaIT-2015).
About 80% of the new employees will work in the new stores, while the remaining share will be employed at the headquarters, in the administrative offices and across the ten Italian logistics centres.
The recruitment process has already started. Recruitment days have been organised mainly in the south of Italy, where most of the new stores are expected to open.
