Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Pharmaceutical company Glaxosmithkline has opened a new 56 million GBP laboratory at its site in Ware, Hertfordshire and will be creating 150 new jobs. When the new positions are filled the total head-count at the site will be 1,200. The site will manufacture inhalers to treat patients with pulmonary conditions. The company is also reported to be expanding at other sites in the UK, though the expansion at Ware is the most significant. The company has said that it expects that the majority of the new positions will be taken by people from the local area. It is not known when all the new positions will be filled.
