Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The supermarket chain Carrefour has announced that it will create 4,400 open-ended contracts in 2016. 3,200 of these jobs are related to their recent merger with Eroski. By means of this merger agreement, Carrefour is taking control 36 stores previously owned by Eroski, subject to several conditions which are yet to be concluded. Moreover, Carrefour will hire 6,000 workers during each summer and Christmas season.
Carrefour also created 3000 jobs last year. The company has explained that it aims to ensure that 85% of its workforce have an open-ended contract. The company has stressed that it its committed to hiring youth and young people, and has stated that in 2016 it will hire 300 young workers with a university degree.
