Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Aibel, a service company in the oil and gas industry, will cut 500 employees at various locations in Norway. About 235 of the positions will be cut in Sandnes, but also the sites in Haugesund, Bergen, Kristiansund, Stjørdal and Harstad will be affected. The economic downturn in the petroleum sector is heavily affecting the company, which has already undergone several rounds of restructuring in 2015, 2014 and 2009. Union representatives report that they intend to engage in dialogue with the company in April, while the process is expected to take at least three months.
