Description

Portway, a handling services company, will proceed to the collective dismissal of 257 workers. The company will not continue to provide services to the airline Ryanair in Faro, Lisbon and Porto. In a press conference, Portway's president said that the opportunity to continue working for the company will be offered to affected workers but on a part-time regime. It was also agreed with Ryanair that those employees, who will be affected by collective dismissal, will have priority in being hired by the Irish company . The company counts a job position as a full-time position, which makes the 257 full-time workers and part-time corresponding to 210 job positions, since there are many employees with partial contracts.

The company confirms that if some of the dismissed workers agree to stay on at Portway with partial contracts, the number of suppressed jobs will be less. At the moment, the company estimates that out of 257 workers who would be dismissed, 94  will accept to work part-time. Seniority and higher salaries are two of the criteria taken into consideration for dismissal. This option is justified by the need to ensure the sustainability of the company, wether financially  or for crew size.

According to Portway, 26 full-time and 28 part-time workers (40 jobs) will be affected by collective dismissal at Faro airport;  61 full-time and 20 part-time workers (71 jobs) at Lisbon and  76 full-time and 46 part-time workers (99 partial jobs) at Porto.

The Portway will no longer provide services to Ryanair in late March at Faro airport; in June at Oporto and in October at Lisbon airport.
