Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German technology provider Bosch announced to close down its site in Rutesheim resulting in 230 job cuts affecting fixed-term employees. Another 500 employees with open-ended contracts will be relocated to Bosch’s site in Feuerbach. The company stated that it decided to shut down the site by 2019 deciding to use empty buildings in Feuerbach instead in an attempt to remain competitive. The restructuring will be carried out in several steps which are currently negotiated with the works council.
Bosch, headquartered in Gerlingen (Baden-Wuerttemberg), currently employs around 375,000 staff worldwide. Over 130,000 employees work in Germany.
