Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 March 2015, injection molding machines manufacturer Ferromatik Milacron announced to cut 130 jobs at its site in Malterdingen. The job reduction affects workers in manufacturing as the company decided to move production to the Czech Republic. Other staff including employees in sales and will not be affected by this decision. Moving production from Germany to the Czech Republic is part of the management’s cost saving strategy with which Ferromatik Milacron wants to save some €35 million by 2017.
The company announced to enter negotiations with the works’ council and the German Metalworkers’ Union. It currently employs around 240 employees.
