European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
On 2 March 2016 Pegatron announced it will close the facility in Breda and will move all activities to Ostrava (Czech Republic). Pegatron repairs mobile phones, mainly for Apple. Virtually all employees are hired through temp agencies. The relocation will result in the loss of all 500 jobs: 200 at the end of March and the remaining 300 in May.
Pegatron was active for only two years and was warmly welcomed in 2014 by the regional development agency BOM. The agency even foresaw the creation of 700 jobs at that time. During the period 2014 until the present, there have been several problems with regard to working conditions. The Labour Inspectorate initiated research and ordered the firm to take measures. Unions were not welcome at the premises.
