Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swedish-Swiss pharmaceutical company Octapharma is to hire 120 new employees following renewed production permits from the country administrative board permitting larger production volumes at Octapharma's factory in Kungsholmen, Stockholm. Octapharma produces protein based pharmaceuticals from plasma. Currently Octapharma has the capacity to produce 1,500 (metric) tonnes of protein based pharmaceuticals yearly, following the renewed permit Octapharma will have the capacity to produce 3,500 tonnes, with plans to produce 2,700 tonnes of pharmaceuticals yearly before the end of 2017.
Beyond hiring new staff Octapharma with improve its production capacity through modernisation and reconstruction of its factory. Octapharma has an investment scheme for its factory in Stockholm amounting to a total of €39 million during 2016.
