Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
AL-KO, producer of car components and gardening tools, is to shut down parts of its production site in Ramsau, Tyrol, in autumn 2016 making up to 60 employees redundant. Management, works council and trade unions have already agreed on a social plan for affected employees, which includes a re-employment guarantee should AL-KO hire new staff again in the future. AL-KO currently has 400 employees in Ramsau and form part of the German technology-enterprise AL-KO Kober, with headquarters in Kötz (Germany), a global producer of gardening tools and supplier for the automotive and aviation industry. AL-KO Kober currently employs 4,000 people ocross 45 sites.
