Description
Canadian-owned Bombardier has announced that 270 jobs will be abolished in its UK transport business, UK for Rail. UK for Rail employs 3,500 across several sites in the United Kingdom. The job cuts in the rail business form part of a global reduction of 7,000 jobs (see related factsheet) of which 3,200 jobs were to come from Bombardier’s transport division, which is involved in rolling stock and rail systems. Bombardier manufactures planes and trains in the United Kingdom and it also manufactures rail equipment and develops rail systems. The job losses at UK for Rail are further to losses in Bombardier’s UK workforce based in Northern Ireland (see related factsheet).
