Retailer Maxima LT announced plans to create 400 new jobs across different regions of Lithuania by the end of 2016. Among the reasons of expansion the company mentioned the introduction of a new deposit system for single-use packaging in Lithuania which is effective since February 2016. The new system requires collection of a monetary deposit on reusable packaging at the point of sale. The company plans to employ at least 170 operators to comply with the new requirements. Currently Maxima LT owns 234 retail chains in Lithuania which employ 17,235 people.
