Description
Finnish producer and retailer of Marimekko design products has initiated employer-employee negotiations aiming to cut 55 jobs. Marimekko is streamlining its operations in order to improve profitability following a weaker Finnish retail market and insecurity in the global economy. The streamlining is expected to result in 55 redundancies. Personnel in company owned retail stores will not be affected, jobs will be cut at the headquarters and Marimekko factory in Helsinki.
The ERM has previously reported on the closure of two Marimekko factories in 2013.
UPDATE 24/3/2016:Following concluded employer-employee negotiations 40 jobs will be cut at Marimekko. Of these 40, 35 employees will be directly dismissed and 5 will be made redundant by other arrangements. The remaining 15 individuals who were initially at risk of losing their jobs will be offered other positions within Marimekko as their current job positions are made redundant.
