Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Spanish publicly owned postal company Correos has initiated a selection process aiming to hire 1600 new staff for several positions. The announcement details the selection requirements (e.g. relevant work and driving licences, possession of the compulsory education degree (ESO), ability to pass various tests). The selection process is currently in course. Information on the reasons for the job creation or details of when candidates will be selected and start work have not been provided.
Update 22-07-2016: Correos has initiated now the inscription process for the candidates. Candidates can apply for the jobs until the 30th of July through the company website, following payment of a registration fee of €10. Some of the positions that need to be filled are related to costumer services, classification agents and delivery staff. The public workers trade union CSIF has criticised the offer. It points out that there are still 6,000 positions to be filled. In 2009 the company initiated an employment adjustment that affected 12,000 workers.
