Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 1st January 2016, German airline Lufthansa announced its plans to create approximately 1,850 new jobs in Germany throughout 2016. In total, the company seeks to create 4,000 new jobs across Germany, Switzerland and Austria at Lufthansa and its subsidiaries SWISS, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine. In addition, Lufthansa is currently looking to recruit 240 first officers and captains for Eurowings in Germany and Austria (140), Austrian Airlines (100) as well as 150 service employees for Munich airport. Finally, the company also announced to take on apprentices this year, though no definite number on apprenticeship positions was released.
The Lufthansa Group, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) operates on a global scale with nearly 500 subsidiaries and associated companies. Lufthansa currently employs around 119,000 employees worldwide.
