Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Waitrose, the supermarket chain, has announced plans to create 1,500 jobs in 2016 as part of a major expansion. The company is set to open fourteen new sites comprising five supermarkets and nine smaller convenience stores. The supermarket locations have been confirmed as High Wycombe, Uttoxeter and Solihull, which will open in the spring and Truro and Worcester which are scheduled to open in the summer. Convenience stores will be opened in Leatherhead and the South Bank Tower in London in the summer. The remaining locations for the convenience stores are yet to be announced. In addition to the jobs in the new stores, 200 jobs will be created at the company's ecommerce centre in South London.
