Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
UK-based pharmaceuticals company GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) will cut 1,500 out of 15,500 jobs worldwide by the end of 2017 including 270 jobs in Germany. The company announced that 270 out of 1,230 jobs will be cut at its production site in Marburg. This represents 20% of all full time jobs at this site. According to the company, this is due to the integration of the vaccine range of its Swiss competitor Novartis into its portfolio which became necessary due to a previous business transfer. The job cuts form part of a wider austerity programme within the GSK group.
